You don’t get to report this too often in regards to an OpenSim grid – too many people and not enough housing available. Since the days of SecondLife it has always been the opposite. Everywhere you traveled in SecondLife and many OpenSim grids you could find entire housing districts sitting empty due to a lack of potential inhabitants.
The “housing crisis”, however, is exactly what is happening in the Great Canadian Grid. The recent explosion in population in the grid has turned Freelands regions into upscale refugee camps as friends share parcels until housing becomes available. The Great Canadian Grid had a population of 650 on March 13, 2015 while today’s stats show a population of 1,182 – with 933 online in the last thirty days (78% return rate). “At any random time you check the stats you can find anywhere from 25 to 55 people online at once” said Winter Silversmith, “it causes some delays but none that can’t be resolved with a little patience”. [we checked, right now, while writing this article at 9:49am on a Thursday – 43 online]
The River Lands Medieval Fantasy Roleplay Community has eleven regions now in their continent. Any new residents who have come to Great Canadian Grid to RolePlay in a medieval environment are encouraged to contact Jaekob Faolan for information. “I would find a place to set up a farm or cottage for you to live on in character”, Jaekob said. “I’m always online to help” he added.
We have set up some simple tudor houses where new players can set home and have a home while they get to know the GCG, its people and the Hypergrid. Huzzah GCG and it's wonderful people!!
