The Demon and the Drowess, Part II (Add in a Gypsy)

Kathena Mavendorf feeling a bit stronger, though not yet recovered, she takes her walking stick and quietly slips out of her room and down the stairs to make her way out of the castle. She knows Jaekob would be upset at her roaming alone so soon after her serious injuries, but she's a gypsy and being indoors for so long feels unnatural to her. She craves nature, and so she walks on slowly, but with purpose.

Kathena Mavendorf watches the gate guard carefully waiting for him to make his turn to check the other vantage point, then she makes her way out of the gates and down the stairs.

Kathena Mavendorf takes a deep breath, enjoying the warm sun on her skin. She looks about finally noticing the green returning to the lands and smiles knowing the darkness is gone. "Well worth the pain." she says to herself, finally taking a seat by the bridge to rest and relax.

Ilmryn Xiltyn stood framed in a dark doorway of the dark caverns. He wadded his hands into fists and began to pace, his eyes dark and brooding. He mumbled to himself as his eyes darkened thinking about the drowess. Finally, he began to make his way through the caverns. And as he passed into the lights, he clenched his eyes tight, reopening them only to slits. He began his trek through the mountain passes to find the gypsy and his knife.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: As usual, he hugged the walls, stuck to the shadows. His hand reached out and his nails raked into the stone as he made his way slowly up and down the pass.

Kathena Mavendorf is lost in thought, her sight focused on the water, but looking through it into nothingness. She is finally letting herself rest and relax, trying to let go of the nightmares she has been living and dreaming about every night since.

Ilmryn Xiltyn pulled in the power that was thrumming around him. He willing his features to soften and his dark eyes took on a lighter hue of dark. He moved closer, quietly to stand behind her. Then he leaned over where she sat and whispered, *You learn well, gypsy. You freed yourself of your shadows,* he says in a purring, soothing voice

Kathena Mavendorf jumps with a start gasping. She tried to stand too quickly, dropping her walking stick and falling on the ground in front of the bench. She looks up at him finally focusing on the face and recognizing the figure. "Gods, it's YOU"

And so, my friends, having been ordered by the Drowess to retrieve the dagger, the Demon journeyed from the dark caverns to the light. He found the gypsy and retrieved his dagger. The Demon and the Drowess, Part 1

Ilmryn Xiltyn: The demon's head slumped forward as he paced the dark caverns. His neck showed pale and whole as his gaze was intent on his hand. He was overly pleased with this body he had taken; it served him well. At least for now.. His connection to the Jabress also served him well; they each had their own agenda, yet they managed to function well enough as a team.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: His encounter with the gypsy had served him well also. On his last venture out into the lands, he did not feel the presence of the other. He smiled a crooked smile on a face all but slack with death. The Jabress would be pleased he was sure. And he fell into the shadows of the walls and moved silently, effortlessly to find her.
Ilmryn Xiltyn, the Demon
Arianna Shadowdew, the Drowess
􀀀
Arianna Shadowdew paces along the rooftop observation deck of the structure hidden far into the caverns. He's been gone far too long for her patience to hold, so he better bring with him information worth the wait. Her patience runs thin as she paces back and forth, gripping her sword's hilt.

Ilmryn Xiltyn glides up the steps, her scent had brought him to her. He stops a few few feet short of her, *Vendui Jabress,* he says with an impassive face.

Arianna Shadowdew feels a presence behind her so she turns ready to strike, stopping short of drawing her blade when she sees him. "Ah, finally!"

Arianna Shadowdew takes a couple of steps towards him, studying his form in the darkness.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "Finally? You were expecting me, Jabress?" he says with a bit of a smirk as she moves closer.

Arianna Shadowdew narrows her eyes at him, with a fierce look upon her face. Her temper has a tendency to overflow under normal circumstances, but HIS attitude brought out the worst in her. "You were gone far longer than I expected! I trust my wait was worth the trouble? What news from above?"

Ilmryn Xiltyn leaned forward as if to touch her arm, a frown on his face but his eyes twinkling amusingly, "We ARE alone, Jabress and...." But the thought fell away and he answered her

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "You will be pleased to know these lands are free of the other, ripe for the taking now."

Arianna Shadowdew defiantly stood her ground, refusing to back up even when he tried to touch her. The news pleased her so a small hint of a smile threatened to mark her face, but faded quickly. "That is good to hear. And you are SURE it is gone from the lands? How can you be certain?"

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "There are rumors; the people talk about it openly and I am in the shadows listening, as always," he smirks.

Arianna Shadowdew eyes narrow, studying him. As a Drow, Ryn had been easy to read, and to control, but since his body was taken over by this demon, she had a difficult time with both. She stared at him in silence for a moment, considering whether he was in fact telling her the truth, then determined that it would be likely to both their advantages if the rumors were fact.

Arianna Shadowdew: "Very well, I supposed next time you go above, I will come along to see for myself. Perhaps I too can listen to the humans and elves gossip."

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "I have more to tell of my last venture from the caves, Jabress. I...I encountered the Gypsy the Druid is so fond of."

Arianna Shadowdew arches an eyebrow with keen interest,

Arianna Shadowdew: "do tell....I'm curious what you found out from her"

Ilmryn Xiltyn took his time before he responded, gloating a bit at his success with the Gypsy, "I found her alone, wandering and I decided to make my presence known. We had a LOVELY chat," he says in his most charming voice

Arianna Shadowdew looks at him with a face so flat with boredom that he could have mistaken her for a corpse, due to the lack of emotion reflected upon it. "Lovely? I sincerely hope you have more than that to report on that account."

Ilmryn Xiltyn: He laughs again, but only with his eyes, totally amused with himself and her, "I began with her as nothing but a curiosity. But, quickly I realized if I aided her.....if I gave her reason to believe she was stronger than she thought, she could succeed in not feeding into the other's fears. And, perhaps, even defeat it."

Arianna Shadowdew purses her lips a bit, growing a bit impatient with him and his smugness. "Very well...and HOW did you manage that, with someone as dim witted as a human gypsy?"

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "Well I shared our secret, of course. I told her evil feeds on fear and if she were to defeat it, she had to suppress that fear."

Arianna Shadowdew eyes grow wide momentarily then narrow with suppressed anger, "you TOLD a human OUR secret?"

[08:24] Ilmryn Xiltyn: "My, my, that was NOT the reaction I had expected, Jabress," he says soothingly. "Have I not succeeded in ridding these lands of the other? Is that not what WE wanted?"

Arianna Shadowdew exhales an exasperated breath losing control of her temper momentarily, "You test my patience, not my resolve! Yes....we do want to rid the lands of competition, but HOW we achieve our goals matters, or are you now infected with the same small intellect the gypsy possesses?!"

Ilmryn Xiltyn moveed toward her quickly, a graceful, quick movement, his coat swirling about him. A hand grabs her arm and jerks her to him. A drow hand at first and then a demon's claw, holding her tight enough to inflict pain, but not injury, "How dare you, Jabress?" And then he releases her with an indifferent shrug.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "Do NOT forget your place," he hisses.

Arianna Shadowdew gasps at the sudden movement, feeling pain from his grip as her heart seems to stop for a moment paralyzed with a foreign sensation of fear towards him. She swallows hard, then composes herself again, and raises her head high in defiant manner. Looks at him with a very serious look like a feral animal ready to attack, but decides to play it smart. "My.....apologies." she says through clenched teeth

Ilmryn Xiltyn rubs his hands up and down his arms, pacing a bit. He looked up at the towering ceiling of the cave, let the darkness absorb into his mind. He shook his head, the nodded, "Very kind of you Jabress. And my apologies for striking out at you. We must stay true to our pact, Jabress, if either of us is to achieve our goals."

Arianna Shadowdew takes a deep breath trying to still her nerves. She must not let him rattle her. She nods in agreement with him. "Aye, well...please continue."

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "Later, or so, I hear the other took the Gypsy away. The spawn that grew in her was removed and the Gypsy found her way back to the Druid. But, as I said, these lands are ours to claim now."

Arianna Shadowdew paces as she listens to the story. "how do you suppose the gypsy managed to survive that, and suppress her fear enough to live to count the tale?"

Ilmryn Xiltyn's eyes looked up to meet hers. He swayed back and forth almost casually. His body language said he was relaxed, but his eyes were dark and brooding, "I have explained that already, Jabress. Do you need every detail?"

Arianna Shadowdew stares at him for a moment getting the sensation that he was holding back information. "Perhaps you can elaborate on your interaction with that filthy human."

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "Very, well, if you must have minutiae," he growls, his tongue licking at his teeth giving her a look that would have backed anyone else away. "I told you, I came upon her and had a curiosity. We spoke of fear and feeding the other with her fear. She readily understood this and I thought to ... TEST her."

Arianna Shadowdew takes a step closer showing him that she is not one to back away from his presence. She leans in a bit closer, and says in a low raspy voice, "Test? What sort of TEST?"

Ilmryn Xiltyn: "I accosted her. I cut her palm with my dagger and she showed no fear," he hissed.

Arianna Shadowdew shows signs of a genuine smile at the thought of human blood spilled, "I do hope you still have some of her blood on the dagger!"

Ilmryn Xiltyn stops pacing, his breathing seems to still and he stares off for a moment, "I gave her my dagger, Jabress. There is no blood to share this time."

Arianna Shadowdew the would be smile disappears from her face and it seemed as if her blood red eyes had turned to full black from the anger reflected on her face. Through clenched teeth she replies, "you GAVE her, a human, a filthy gypsy, YOUR dagger?!" As the last syllable escaped her lips her hand flew up and threw a backwards slap with all of her might at his face.

Ilmryn Xiltyn blinked and it was like waking up as hand met cheek before his hand could intercede. He ataggered a bit, his back to her and he turned slowly to look over his shoulder as fangs pushed through delicate flesh, blood dripped from his mouth and down his chin. He hissed at her and turned slowly, "Do.....not....ever....strike me again female," he growled as he licked the blood from his fangs.

Arianna Shadowdew the anger that was coursing through her veins would not be dissuaded by his threat. She was past the point of reason. "That dagger has been in my family for generations! It belongs to a proud clan and you SHALL retrieve it even if it means you must slaughter an entire village. Do you understand!" she screams at him

Ilmryn Xiltyn half shrugged as his fangs seem to simply vanish. He nodded, a bit of a smirk on his cold lips, "I shall retrieve the dagger, Jabbress,"  his tone now soothing and calm as he steps away from her.

Arianna Shadowdew stands there still trembling from the adrenaline that is rushing its way through her body. She takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "Very well then. As long as you follow through on your commands"
.
Ilmryn Xiltyn puts a hand to his coat and does a mockingly flourishing bow, "The dagger shall be retrieved, Jabress," he said softly already thinking of his next visit with the Gypsy.

Arianna Shadowdew nods at the ridiculous bow and attitude, but was dismissive at him. "You are free to go. You have a task...go to it."

Ilmryn Xiltyn nods and with seemingly no effort glides down the stairwell and out of sight.

the new Remembrance Bridge - the River Lands

the new Remembrance Bridge in the River Lands (River Lands sim)
Was it really six months ago that the River Lands along with then play partners, the Unified Lands, hosted a Luminary Ceremony to benefit the RFL? It seems like only yesterday when we gathered at the River and took a moment or two to remember family and friends.
After the Ceremony, a Remembrance Bridge was placed on the site; but as misfortune would have it, it became necessary to replace the Bridge. And to that end my dear friend, Rosslyn Guardian (owner of Falconrose), offered to build the new Remembrance Bridge. Within two days, the bridge you see in the photo was placed. And it bears a beautiful plaque which reads:

Memorial
This Bridge is dedicated to
All those loved and dear
Who have taken the Swan Ship
To the other side of the Myst.
May you wait for us!

The Bridge was intended for all of us who have been left behind for a bit of time. And all are welcome at the site of the bridge to revel in times gone by with loved ones. It is the only spot in the River Lands which is open regardless of race, attire and that dang unity meter everyone hates. Visit the River Lands Medieval OOC Area and Mall for a landmark to the new Remembrance Bridge. Huzzah and thank you Rosslyn.

The Gypsy is Taken, Part V

Elise Allebil closes the distance between herself and Kathena. Darkness seems to follow like an extended cloak over the land. A heavy weight seems to press against the land as the animals, birds and insects fall quiet. From the shadows and shade of the trees indescribable creatures creep cautiously towards the woman. Each looking hungry, each wondering if the other could consume the prize she holds for themselves. The demoness caresses the chin of her massive Shadow Beast as she continues to her approach to the gypsy.

Kathena Mavendorf in all of her confusion begins to feel a chill run down her spine, the light seeming to fade away leaving darkness in it's wake, when she suddenly realizes it is TOO quiet. She stops trying to listen for any sound, footsteps, crickets, birds..but nothing is heard. Her heart begins to thump rapidly in her chest with fear.

Jaekob Faolan had noticed Kathena passing by as he gathered herbs and quietly fell in step behind her, keeping some distance. Her demeanor had been calm of late and maybe she was going to the inn, he thought. When she stopped near the bridge, he stopped and stood still behind a tree, swallowing as the lands give off a chill. He shudders and stands quietly, hiding.

Elise Allebil signals for her imps to surround the woman. "Bring her away from the city..do not let her escape." her growl was strong and her power seemed to almost have a life separate of herself. Truly she just fed as blood dripped from her arms. "Let us see how our youngest is growing.." she emerges from the thickest of the woods, here she stands, waiting for the beasts to herd the gypsy away from the city.

Kathena Mavendorf panics as she sees things coming out of the darkness moving towards her. She begins to run through the woods, but trips over some roots sticking out from the ground and falls down. Looking terrified she is surrounded.

Jaekob Faolan pales and swallows as Elise and her minions move from shadow to light and attack Kathena. For a moment, he is frozen in place and waits to see what is happening

Elise Allebil smiles sharply at Kathena. "Ah.. there you are." The Shadow Beast at her side drools heavily into the grass as it bares its fangs at the woman. Elise puts her hand to its massive muzzle and forces its head into submission. "No yet.." she purrs to it. Her eyes return to the Gypsy. She raises a brow to the woman, "Are you still obedient to me, Gypsy?"

Kathena Mavendorf grows pale at the site of the demoness and her pet. She opens her mouth to speak but no sound comes out, so she nods slowly hoping to survive the encounter.

Jaekob Faolan growls and lifts his hands up toward the sky. He speaks quietly to the Air, *I beseech you. Bring a wind wild and ferocious to strike the minions and aid Kathena.* And as he finishes he rushes into the fray

Elise Allebil 's eyes narrow as magic is called. The Shadow Beast turns on the Druid before she does. The wind cutting at her cheek just before she's able to desecrate the earth around her. Unholy runes glare up from the earth, staggering the wind or any element from harming her for a few moments. The smaller weaker imps surround the Druid attempting to drag him to the ground. "ah.. don't spoil him... my pets.." she purrs darkly. "Just.. hold him still.. yes?" she looks meaningfully to the Druid. "That wasn't nice.."

Kathena Mavendorf sees Jaekob running towards her when the attention of the beasts turn towards him. She screams at him, "noooo, Jaekob go back!" She is desperate but cannot help him.

Jaekob Faolan growls at the demoness, his face drawn yet determined. He calls upon the earth and boulders push up surrounding him and would topple the minions away if they were fast enough, *Do nOT touch her.... harm her. We have done everything you have asked, risking our own safety and sanity to keep our word. But... but.... you do not keep yours.

Elise Allebil looks dangerously amused as she purrs to the Druid, "How so my dear?"

Jaekob Faolan: You asked for the caves, *he growls,* and I gave them. You asked for us to hold this thing of yours and hold your secret and we did. Yet, your evil procreates through the lands and you continue to cause harm to land and people.

Kathena Mavendorf looks at them both, terrified at what might happen. She remembers the Drow's words to her and tries to control her fear, not letting it consume her. She squeezes her right hand, knowing the pain of the cut on her palm will keep her mind present in the moment.

Elise Allebil grins baring her fangs, unfortunately the smile was genuine for her kind. The imps gather at her feet she turns her gaze on Kathena. "Come sit." she points to her side. "Move them out of your way if need be.." she says as an after thought, then turns to Jaekob. "I've done well within my means to hold our contract. Your lands however are too delicious to just leave unseeded by my kin." she grins, "But I have no harmed you or the woman, have I?"

Jaekob Faolan bites his lip, knowing full well the original pact was bittersweet at best. And the truth of it was, she had been truer to her word than he had expected. He shakes his head with a bit of a snarl strands of red hair falling in his face, *You have not harmed me or...* and the looks at Kathena *the woman.*

Kathena Mavendorf looks at Jaekob her eyes starting to tear up, but filled with determination. She crawls on her hands and knees over to the demoness, looking at her with anger and hate, almost defiantly, she sits on the ground near her.

Elise Allebil pets Kathena as if she was already one of her Shadow Beasts. "Yes, so you seem rather upset over the pact we made..." she purrs, "Shall we make a different one?"

Kathena Mavendorf bats away the demoness' hand. "Don't touch me you beast! I will make no such bargain with you. I know now, nothing you say can be trusted"

Jaekob Faolan looks from one to the other, his eyes settling on the demoness. He doesn't trust her, but plays into her offer, *And what of this new pact if we were inclined hmmmm?

Elise Allebil sets her claw to the back of Kathena's neck, "I'll leave your lands completely... if I can keep her." she jokes.

Jaekob Faolan growls and moves closer to her, *THAT is not happening.*

Kathena Mavendorf winces at the pain on the back of her neck from being grabbed

Kathena Mavendorf: "No Jaekob! You know she can't be trusted!"

Elise Allebil tightens her grip, her long nails threatening to cut into the woman's throat as she lifts the Gypsy to stand. "ah ah.. back away.. Druid. You've already given me everything I want..except of course just this." she smirks, "and she has a rather solid pact with me. Perhaps I should change the terms since I'm in the mood to give a bit of my own power to see this seed grow."

Kathena Mavendorf struggles against Elise's grip on her. She growls at the demoness through clenched teeth, "You leave him be! He has nothing you need....you have me right here. You let him go!"

Jaekob Faolan raises his head and shouts to his elements. A storm brews over the lands and lightening begins to pop and dance in the sky as a bolt plummets toward her arm to release the grip on Kathena

Jaekob Faolan: Release her or I will wreak havoc on you and your beast. Release her NOW

Elise Allebil raises a brow at the Druid, the lightening arching across her arm. The stench of burning demon flesh wrap around the pair. For a moment she holds the Gypsy defiantly before opening her claw and dropping her to the ground. "Now what?"

Kathena Mavendorf falls to the ground with a thud, the stinging pain still remains on the back of her neck, but she looks up at Elise with rage in her eyes defiantly

Jaekob Faolan moves quickly to Kathena, placing himself between the demoness and his friend. He kneels, his eyes quickly assessing the harm done her. He cocks his head backward and snarls, *We will not pact another pact. We are done with doing YOUR bidding and being your scapegoat

Jaekob Faolan looks hastily toward Can, his features wrapped in fear and nods him not to come closer

Elise Allebil grins, "I was hoping you'd say as much." her voice seems to purr into his mind. "But I WILL take what is mine and with it.. all previous agreements."

Kathena Mavendorf gasps knowing she holds what belongs to the demoness. She tries to push Jaekob away from her, "Please Jaekob, run! Get away from here!" she looks at Elise with all the strength she can muster...."I have what you seek. You just let him go!"

Jaekob Faolan: .me growls, a deep low sound, as he jerks up and meets her eyes, *I tell you, you cannot have the woman. I am not afraid of you and I will fight for her.* he hisses

Elise Allebil laughs darkly, "And will you fight her as well? It seems she fights to save you from yourself.. "she smirks, "If a fight is truly what you seek. I will grant you a pain worthy of this... noble act." she purrs wickedly.

Can Wobbit: molds to the post closer.. trying to hear every word

Kathena Mavendorf looks at them both with wild eyes, then screams at him in desperation "No Jaekob, please...just go!" she then yells at the demoness, "Leave him alone!"

Jaekob Faolan: I will.... I will, *And he turns to Kathena, his eyes lost and searching. He returns his gaze to the demoness and bites his lip hard, drawing a bit of blood for distraction to himself.* I will not fight HER. I will save her from you. This..... you.... will be defeated and be remembered as a bad dream visited but gone

Elise Allebil nods slowly. "You realize threats still don't work on me by this point.. I'm a rather ignorant demon and still very full of myself." she grins wildly. "So, what will you do?"

Jaekob Faolan growls as he looks upward again. The already dark skies begin to roil and rumble, lighting pushing downward around her and the minions. He makes a move toward her, fists clenched and screams, *Let me SHOW you

Kathena Mavendorf she forces herself back onto her feet and stands next to Jaekob looking hard at the demoness..."Jaekob don't!" she screams in fear for his life...."Demoness...if you want what I carry you will not harm him!"

Elise Allebil moves for a moment to claw his chest, but instead at the words of the Gypsy, she shadow steps through the Druid and safely into a dark shield. Her demonic features soften as she looks to the Gypsy.. "You ask a lot.. for a woman being attacked.."

Kathena Mavendorf forces a sarcastic grin on her face, "It was YOU who showed me I was stronger than others....demoness. I will not let you harm him."

Jaekob Faolan growls again and makes his way closer to Kathena, not sure who is protecting whom at the moment, but determined to die if need be to protect her, *Leave her be. You cannot have her. I ....will....* and the skies roil and rumble less as he beseeches the demoness not to hurt Kathena

Elise Allebil folds her arms clearly she couldn't do anything at the moment and within her circle she could withstand at least four attacks unharmed before she was forced to fight. "Yes yes.. I understand that bit.. however, she doesn't want me to hurt you.. you don't want me to hurt her.. and she has something I want. So we'll need to come to some kind of agreement."

Jaekob Faolan: Wha... what kind of agreement, *he growls

Kathena Mavendorf grabs Jaekob's arm, and shakes her head at him. She looks at Elise, waiting anxiously at her reply.

Elise Allebil walks in a small circle within her shield, tapping her fingers against her lips. "I can see there's going to be no way to do this the fun way." she tosses a dark playful glance at the Druid, "Had you not been here I could have just taken her and had hours of fun.." she pauses turns around and starts the circling again. "But only one of you holds any power here.. erm.. aside from me.." she eyes the Druid.. "at least that wouldn't end in some kind of nasty blood bath.. " she stops and looks to the Gypsy, "How about you come to me later..I'll leave these lands and all that I've done to them to be mended and healed.. whatever.." she spits, "In return, I'll take what is mine.. AND I will bound myself to my promise that I will not harm her while removing the Shadowling."

Kathena Mavendorf before he can speak, she answers quickly, "Deal! ..but you leave here now and never return...not YOU, nor any of your creatures"

Jaekob Faolan: Nooooo, *he cries out.* Kathena you cannot trust her

Elise Allebil steps outside the circle and holds out her hand. "Bind the pact." her hand becomes a demon's claw.

Jaekob Faolan moves quickly to stop Kathena, but will he be quick enough?

Kathena Mavendorf she looks at Jaekob sadly, "there is no other choice" she then turns and shakes the demoness' hand

Jaekob Faolan collapses onto his knees, tears rolling down his cheeks as he digs his hands into the soft earth seeking balance.

Elise Allebil grips the woman's hand, then catches her wrist pulling the Gypsy into the circle. "Time to go then!" she coils her other arm around Kathena's waist. "Lets go remove my precious Shadowling from your body."

Kathena Mavendorf gasps and screams as she is pulled away. She looks back at Jaekob knowing full well there is nothing he can do to help her now.

Jaekob Faolan reaches out for her, but is too late. His hands grasp only air. And he cries harder

Elise Allebil looks to her Shadow Beast which bounds over to her obediently. She grabs its hide and pulls the pair of them up onto its back. She looks to her minions, "clear the land of our kin, the deal has been sealed." she growls and breathes deep the woman's scent. "Lets take care of our promises." she growls crushing the woman against her own chest.

Kathena Mavendorf silent tears roll down her face as she looks at Jaekob for what will probably be the last time in this life. She speaks softly to him, "I'm sorry Jaekob. Goodbye my friend"

Jaekob Faolan rolls his eyes up to look at them, his countenance broken, shattered. His fingers dig deeper into the rich soil already feeling alive again. But his heart is broken; he failed to save the gypsy

Elise Allebil growls at the Shadow Beast which takes off into the woods and the darker corners of the earth.

The Gypsy and the Drow

Grab your popcorn and settle back. This is an actual role play, published with both players' permission. Enjoy.

Ilmryn Xiltyn would move quietly, each footstep well chosen. A snarl would curl on his lips, white teeth framed by his dark drow skin. He had heard the borders were not so well protected and  tightened his grip on his bow as he moved inward.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: A sigh moved from his chest as he moved through the dark caverns beneath Calenhad. There was a whisper of a sound - thick claws raking into the thick stone walls. There was another sound - something unnatural. And he made his way further along until he was free of the caves and in open land. Still, even in the night, he hugged the mountain walls. He clung to the shadows. And he made his way to the elven city.

Kathena Mavendorf growing restless,
she decides to go for a walk around the grounds.

Kathena Mavendorf preoccupied with the echoes in her mind, she walks unawares of her surroundings.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: A voice came out of nowhere as he sees her, a faint voice soft and hoarse that had the sense of unuse. He stared at her through slanted eyes and wiggled his fingers for her to come closer.

Ilmryn Xiltyn growls to himself as she vanishes down the cold stairway and he follows her, the silk fabric of his long coat rustling against his flesh.

Kathena Mavendorf paces by the water, trying to let go of the stress and unease that troubles her mind

Ilmryn Xiltyn: Finally he sees her and breathed deeply, breathing in her scent. He was unprepared, not ready for idle chatter, he was unprepared for a curiosity he knew he would quench and he moved closer and closer until he could reach through the shadows and touch her arm should she choose.

Kathena Mavendorf hears a few careful steps behind her, so she turns with a start. She gasps and takes a step back carefully. Nervously she tries to regain her composure. "Oh, I....I'm sorry, ....M'Lord. I did not hear you."

Kathena Mavendorf she studies the man carefully....he seems elvish, but different...darker somehow, and his eyes....his eyes glow red. She fears him, but mustn't show it.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: Did I... frighten you Jalil, *he says in his most soothing voice, reaching out to lightly brush her arm with his fingertips.

Kathena Mavendorf his touch makes her tremble a little and she blushes with nervousness. "I ....I thought...I was alone, M'Lord"

Kathena Mavendorf looks around nervously, hoping to see anyone else about. She looks at the stairs leading back to the castle, hoping, wondering if she could make them if she had to run.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: He pulls his hand away, letting it hover a moment longer and slowly walks around her until he is at her back. There is a low growl and he whispers, *One is... never truly alone, Jalil* And then he continues around her until he faces her. *Shall I go, Jalil, and leave you.... alone?

Kathena Mavendorf she feels a chill run down her back as he speaks behind her. He finally faces her, she chews on her lip not sure if admitting fear would be a good idea, so she attempts to look like she's not bothered at all. "That's quite...alright M'Lord. I ...was just....out for a walk." She finally gets out clumsily in her worst attempt at being brave.

Kathena Mavendorf forces a smile on her face

Kathena Mavendorf: "I don't believe I've seen you here before."

Ilmryn Xiltyn: His voice came at the end of a growl. His nostrils flared and he sucked in a breath of air, *I play in shadows and caves Jalil and am not often seen. But, I have a curiosity about you and thought to show myself.

Kathena Mavendorf carefully takes a couple of steps towards the steps trying to seem casual about her movements. She arches an eyebrow at his comment. "Me? What is curious about me? I....I'm just....human...and a common gypsy at that. No one of any importance, really"

Ilmryn Xiltyn seems to move between her and the steps effortlessly. His lips give a hint of a smile, *What IS it you fear, Jalil?

Kathena Mavendorf a nervous smile appears on her face, "Fear? I'm not.....afraid."

Ilmryn Xiltyn moves in closer growling, *Do not lie to me. I could smell your fear in the air as I passed behind you. And,I had not shown myself.*

Kathena Mavendorf swallows hard, her breath catching in her throat as she tenses up. She thinks of the shadow within as the source of the fear he smelled and closes her eyes tightly trying to push back the echos in her mind. She forces out,  "it's ....not....of your ...concern."

Kathena Mavendorf she opens her eyes and starts to turn her fear to anger in an effort to regain control of herself. "Who ARE you, anyway? Why are you here?"

Ilmryn Xiltyn: His features softened to broach the subject yet again, in a gentler way. He took a deep breath and made a face as the scents of the land assaulted his senses. He shook his head, wishing for the dark of the caves.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: I am called Ilmryn, Jalil. And I am here... because I wish to be. I told you, I have a curiosity. to know what frightens you so.

Kathena Mavendorf crosses her arms in front of herself as if that would give her some protection or comfort in his presence. She shakes her head, "You don't want to know.....this. You...shouldn't....."*sighs...."you should stay away."

Ilmryn Xiltyn stood there looking at her for a few brief moments and suddenly broke out in laughter. Her crossed arms, her defiance amused him, *May I tell you a secret Jalil?* he asked in a very soothing voice.

Kathena Mavendorf looks disturbed at his laughter, but nods, "Go ahead...."

Ilmryn Xiltyn nods. *Fear is like a pulse beating low in the belly. Fear will consume you. And whilst you show this fear of yours, someone, some thing will feed from it. Your fear is quite....delightful,* he smirks

Kathena Mavendorf could feel the shadow growing stronger as he spoke, the fear that had been coursing through her veins, feeding the beast within and she knew he was telling the truth. For a moment she was intrigued by him. Could he have a solution? "And IF....I ...wanted to be rid of this  fear ? How would I keep it from.....let's say....feeding...the monster?"

Kathena Mavendorf could hear echos of laughter from the shadow inside her mind. She closed her eyes tightly, trying to make the noise subside.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: His hand moves to his dagger as he slips it quickly from its sheath, the sound of metal on leather filling the quiet night. He reaches his hand out to her, *Give me your hand, Jalil,* he says soothingly as his face softens to draw her in.

Kathena Mavendorf recoils at the dagger being drawn, but then is surprised by his hand and his request. She looks at his eyes, then back at his hand wondering if it was at all wise to trust this creature. Her mind divided, her soul tormented, in her desperation she decides to give him her hand. She stretches out her arm presenting her hand to him softly, looking up at his eyes hoping he won't kill her.

Ilmryn Xiltyn: His hand takes hers, warm and cool exist for a moment in relative peace and he jerks her closer with a growl, the razor thin edge of the dagger suddenly pressed to her palm

Kathena Mavendorf gasps and bites down on her lip to keep from crying out

Ilmryn Xiltyn rolls his eyes up to meet hers and a smile curls onto his lips as he flips the dagger about in his hand and places the pommel in her grasp

Ilmryn Xiltyn: Very good, Jalil. I received no.... satisfaction from that.

Kathena Mavendorf she grabs the dagger and looks at him confused. "I ...don't understand"

Kathena Mavendorf: "and why are you calling me Jalil....that is NOT my name! I am Kathena"

Ilmryn Xiltyn laughs softly and walks around her again until he is at her back. He leans over and whispers in her ear, *You control your fear. You are stronger than you think, Jalil Keep the dagger, it is a gift to ward the fear from your mind when it returns.* And as he speaks the last of it, he slips quietly into the shadows and is gone.

Kathena Mavendorf she turns to speak to him, but he is gone from her sight as if he had never been there. She looks at her bleeding palm and the dagger in her hand, and KNOWS it happened.

Breaking up is hard to do

Before folks begin sup positioning this thing and that, I would like to say I have never known or role played with a finer group of people than those who make up the Unified Lands of the North Sea (in particular the Grand Duchy of Chanwood.) They are kind and good and all the things we wish to see in ourselves and the people who surround us. The leaders are caring and giving and ask nothing in return. I learned and grew in my own role as Druid of the River Lands because of the influence of these good people.  To them I would say, *Huzzah and thank you. You live in my heart like a gentle breeze and your kindnesses to me and the River Lands will not be forgotten. I truly hope we can share many things going forward.
Breaking up IS hard to do. It happens. And no one person is right or wrong. There just comes a moment when it is the right thing to do. The decision for the River Lands to become an independent community had more to do with the desire to slow down the whirlwind ride that I was on and get back to the basics of roleplay.
So I would say to you, if you are interested in roleplay, regardless the genre, there are many wonderful opportunities in InWorldz. Go out and talk to folks, find a place where you fit and want to spend time.
And, no. The Druid and the Gypsy yet have things to do before their journey ends. There is much more to the story and I encourage you to visit the River Lands and get to know us. There are other adventures yet to unfold and YOU could be a part of it.
